Denyse Schmidt ~ Quilt Fabric and Pattern Designer
Raised in the textile mill towns of central Massachusetts, Denyse grew up surrounded by a culture of making and resourcefulness. While studying at the Rhode Island School of Design, she discovered the beauty of improvised, utilitarian quilts whose mismatched seams and humble materials carried personal history and quiet nostalgia.
Her career has blended design, sewing, and quilting, with early work appearing in retailers such as Henri Bendel, Takashimaya, and Saks Fifth Avenue. In 2006, she began designing for a new generation of hobbyist quilters seeking instructional and inspirational resources, including modern quilt patterns, books, and fabric. Quilting has long carried a rich tradition of community, historically bringing women together for quilting bees where they stitched, shared stories, and supported one another.
Through DSQ, she continues that tradition by creating a space where creativity, beauty, and connection come together.
