Meet Kathy Schmitz, a fabric and quilt pattern designer whose creative journey began with childhood sketches and blossomed into a thriving career. After showcasing her quilt-themed greeting cards at Quilt Market in 2002, Moda Fabrics discovered her talent, launching her debut collection, Cozy Comforts. Drawing inspiration from her family's quilting legacy—she stitched her first quilt at 13 on her grandmother's treadle machine—Kathy developed her signature illustration style by painting snowy house scenes. She's since expanded her artistic toolkit to include embroidery and quilt design, seamlessly weaving these elements together. Now creating from her cozy Portland cottage with her husband Steve, Kathy channels her love of home, family, and artistic expression into every design that bears her name.
