Elizabeth is a quilter, pattern designer, and unabashed fan of color based in Portland, Oregon. She taught herself to quilt in 1999 and was instantly hooked—discovering that quiltmaking perfectly combines creativity, problem-solving, and the satisfaction of making something beautiful and useful.

In 2014, Elizabeth founded Patterns by Elizabeth Hartman, a company dedicated to bringing playful pictorial quilts to life. Since then, she has published more than 80 quilt patterns featuring her signature plant and animal motifs—from dogs in cozy sweaters to cat astronauts, even the occasional Bigfoot! Her patterns are designed with clearly written, step-by-step instructions that make complex quilts approachable for quilters of all levels.

For Elizabeth, the magic of quilting lies in transforming simple fabric pieces into expressive faces, whimsical creatures, and vibrant little worlds that make people smile. Her mission is simple: to share that joy with others through patterns and fabrics that celebrate color, creativity, and modern living.
